MAGIC CRANE
Anita in the Crane's ShadowAwesome poster for Benny Chan Muk-sing's 1993 fantastic fantasy pic MAGIC CRANE. Tony Leung Chiu-wai, Rosamund Kwan Chi-lam, Lawrence Ng Kai-wah, Damian Lau Chung-yan, Norman Chu Siu-keung, and the late HK pop icon Anita Chan Mui Yim-fong are put through all of the early 90's fantasy paces in this excellent martial wonder. They don't make them like this anymore. Co-written and produced by Tsui Hark (and as the film looks, partially directed), MAGIC CRANE flies forth at a fun clip. Director Chan's panache seems to mostly lie with contemporary action flicks but his teaming with Hark on MAGIC CRANE and the flights of fancy they serve to the martial genre make for a once seen, never forgotten experience. Wire work and a cheesy looking white crane. What more do you need?
